Dozens of vendors, thousands of gifts!
This is an easy project to make, but even easier if you have pictures to help you along!
Please refer to the box instructions here: Box quilt and flash card instructions(pdf)
1. Cutting Instructions for all fabrics:
Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. 1/4″ seam allowance is included in measurements and all strips are cut across the width of the fabric unless noted otherwise.
A. Cut first (title) and last (“The End”) card blocks from panel centering each within a 5.75″ square. On the wrong side of each square, mark 1/4″ seam points at each corner. Cut remaining panel into three large sections. At least two of the sections should cover most of the width of the stabilizer.
C. Cut one 3″ strip across the width of each fabric. Trim to 3″ x 21-1/2″
Draw lines on the wrong side of each strip as follows: 1/4″ from each end and 5-1/4″ increments in between. There will be a total of four 3″ x 5-1/4″ rectangles marked on the strip. Note the faint blue lines on the strip.
Fusible stabilizer: Cut four 2-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ (scant) rectangles and one (scant) 5-1/4″ square; suggested is Timtex. However, it’s not fusible. Suggested fusible to use for the stabilizer - Heat & bond feather lite (*New!)
You will need the fusible stabilizer for the Timtex to adhere to the fabric.
2. Box Assembly:
A. With right sides together, sew ends of (C) 3″ x 21-1/2″ strip together forming a ring. Leave end of seam open 1/4″ and backstitch. Press seam open. Repeat for (D) strip. Snip 1/4″ into fabric along the three drawn lines on the same side of ring as seam opening. There should be four 1/4″ openings along edge of ring.
B. With right sides together, sew “title page” panel card to (C) ring by matching marked seam points on card to drawn lines and seam on (C) ring. Sew each side separately beginning and ending at marks. Press toward card. Repeat using (D) ring and “The End” panel card.
C. Place the 5-1/4″ stabilizer square against the wrong side of “The End” card. Peel off plastic liner. Insert (C) into (D) so that “title page” shows inside inner box. Pin sides of (C) and (D) together at matching drawn lines and seams. Match corners of both boxes and fuse bottom in place with a hot iron. This is where a mini-iron is very helpful.
Use an applique pressing sheet to save your ironing board cover!
D. Pinch & crease fabric at each corner. If you’re comfortable maneuvering the box, stitch along those creases to hold corners in place. If not, pin corners placing pins vertically along creases. wroking with one 2-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ stabilizer rectangle at a time, insert between stitching (or pins) and fuse in place.
E. When all sides are fused & cool, use pinking shears to trim top edge of box.

I just love this collection. It has some terrific blenders, so even if you don’t see the kids prints in your collection, take a look at the many coordinates, which would go well with many of your existing fabrics.

I’ve finished my block, but don’t worry, they’re still available. Batik Faith, Hope, Love block-of-the-month kits and patterns are still available.
Please notice my “vintage” pincushion, my ancient industrial sewing machine! I LOVE new things, but I still use the old ones!
We start by cutting pieces for the base.
We sew the base panel together. Easy peasy, straight lines with a quarter inch seam allowance.
Put your fusible web, such as Steam-A-Seam with fusible side down, over the the pattern pieces, and just trace the images onto the non-sticky side.
Iron the fusible web to the WRONG side of the fabric, being careful to use a pressing cloth or something suitable, so your pen or pencil marks don’t show up on your iron (how do I know this? Guess!!).
Cut out all the “applique” pieces. This is raw-edge applique, so there’s NO TURNING! Woo hoo!

Ok, so it only took me 9 blocks to put the applique pressing sheet to good use! There’s a “placement” shown on the pattern, so you can put the applique pressing sheet on top of the pattern, then the pieces on top of the applique pressing sheet. Then you iron the pieces onto the sheet. You really only need to do this to some of them that have more than one component like the flowers & centers over leaves. Carefully peel off the components with fusible still intact, and place them strategically onto the base panel.
Then iron, and you’re almost done! Batik FHL Block of the month
Just a few remembrances of our Denver trip

Thanks for visiting Pat on the Back!
This is the 8th of 9 block-of-the-month patterns. I’m so excited, just one more to go! Here’s how we do it.
First we cut the base fabric pieces and sew them together. Very easy – straight line sewing.
After we’ve sewn together the base, press toward the darker fabric on the back side, then press any folds at the seams on the front side.
Now you have the base.
These are the applique pieces we are going to IRON onto the base fabric. We’ve traced the pattern onto the wrong side of the fusible, then we will iron them onto the wrong side of the pattern (pattern pieces are in reverse).
As you can see, the “Love” looks good before I ironed it onto the base, but I was in a hurry (please don’t you be) when I ironed it onto the base.
Raw edge applique is the process used for this and the other blocks in the kit. Pattern pieces are in reverse already, so we trace the pattern onto the non-sticky side of the fusible web, then iron the fusible web onto the wrong side of the fabric.

Late Show Notice – Krafty Delites Sun. 4/10 10 – 4 Carson Community Center 801 E. Carson St. Carson, CA
This is block 4 of the Faith-Hope-Love block of the month It took most of one day to make. The other blocks are a little easier. As you can see, the flowers are MANY pieces. There are antennae on the caterpillar to the left of Hope
These are the pieces of fabric I cut for the background

This is simple sewing with 1/4″ seams.
I sewed the horizontal rows of panels two & five, then sewed them all together

I then sewed the 5 columns together, and then ironed on the applique pieces to the top! Bravo!
